Blog Connections and Cinzzetti’s

We were contacted by someone who left a comment on this blog. His name is George and he wanted to know what we knew about Puerto Rico because he had some business ideas that he would like to see go to Puerto Rico.  We exchanged emails a few times and decided it would be fun to meet up in person.

So since they live in Colorado Springs and we live here in Greeley, we decided to meet at a halfway point. I thought Cinzzetti’s in Northglenn would be perfect since it is right off I-25. It’s an Italian Buffet restaurant.

With George and Sandy at Cinzzetti’s

We had a lovely meal and time with George and his wife Sandy. They are trying to start a new business sort of like Avon where they sell supplements direct to customers. It sounded interesting and we told him about our connections with Awilda and the naturalists in Puerto Rico.

I don’t think we would probably sell the products ourselves, but you never know. It seems a bit too pricey, and I’m not much for sales. I read a little about glutathione (one of the major ingredients in these products) later on. It is an important nutrient and energy source in our bodies, but I was surprised and happy to see that milk thistle also makes glutathione more abundant in the body. Milk thistle is what we gave our dog Schnoodle when she was really sick and jaundiced with some sort of liver disease as I mentioned before. Milk thistle, unlike some of these supplements, is also dirt cheap and the weed grows all around here.

So anyhow, it was a fun adventure and another example of how our blog connects us to the world around us with people of similar interests. Thanks George and Sandy for the meal and a very nice time. We wish you luck on your journey and hope that our roads will perhaps intersect again in the future.

Kress Cinema Theatre and Lounge in Greeley

Yesterday we decided to go and hang out. Our roommate had her mom and sister visiting from out of town, so we wanted to make ourselves scarce. So we went to Lake Loveland again and walked around the lake. Then we went to Starbucks with some gift cards we received from a relationship class we took.

Outside with the Kress Marquee

Then last night we decided to go out to see a movie. Instead of going to the big movie megaplex we went to the Indie movie theatre called the Kress Cinema and Lounge here in Greeley. We really like the Kress and it’s a nice place to take friends and family, or go out on a date like we did. They’ve remodeled the building and given it a sort of art deco feel from the 40’s.

We saw a movie called “Barney’s Version”. It was a pretty interesting take on the traditional love story starring Paul Giamatti. At the Kress you can eat and drink (including alcohol) which is very different from other theatres that only offer popcorn, pop, and candy. We shared a “Charlie and the Chocolate Brownie”, a brownie and ice cream dessert. Also something different about Kress is that they have FREE showings of old cult favorites (on Fridays) and classics (Sundays).

Afterward, we hung out and listened to a live jazz band that was playing in the lounge for a little while before taking the Corvette back home. It was a great day all in all.

Puerto Rico…A Little Closer

Today we got a little closer to Puerto Rico. (At least figuratively, but perhaps actually since the earth moved a little off its axis after that huge earthquake in Japan.)

We applied for and were approved for two personal loans that will help to cover the difference in buying the place in Rincon. We have also bought our tickets to Aguadilla and back leaving the last week in May and returning early June (2 weeks). And thanks to the kind Kruses, I think we have a place to stay when we first arrive. I am so excited today that I just want to do it now! But I know we must wait, and so I have been keeping myself calm by reading all about the tropical plants we can grow there!

A cool Puerto Rican plant

I picked up one from the library called Growing Tasty Tropical Plants. I am ready to grow, cook with, and eat kumquats, guava, cinnamon, yerba mate, passion fruit, dragon fruit, and miracle berries among many other strange and delectable things. Hurray for gardening in the tropics! And hurray for all these steps that are helping our dream bear fruit as well.

Reception at Dicken’s Tavern plus Pan Loco!

Me and Britton outside Dicken’s Tavern in Longmont

Last night we went to Dicken’s Tavern/Opera House in Longmont to celebrate our friends Troy and Lori’s recent marriage. Britton has been friends with Troy for a long time. Britton and Troy’s brother, Kelly, even went to elementary school together! But they really all became good friends when they worked together at IBM and had the great idea to put a band together.

Troy, Kelly, Dave, Britton and Jimmy -and lots of pizza circa 2003/2004 at Scooters I believe

This band was known as Pan Loco for all the pizza and crazy bread they would eat when they would practice together. They were really a pretty good cover band. Britton played bass guitar, Jimmy played guitar, Troy played guitar and keyboards, Kelly played drums and Dave sang. It was fun. They got gigs on what we call the “8th Ave Circuit”. Basically they are the kind of seedy bars in Garden City like Scooters and Bears. But it was a blast. We invited all our friends out and we rocked out all together.

The band sort of just stopped playing together. Nothing major happened, just life. Everyone was busy and it was difficult to schedule practice times around everyone’s calendars. But for that moment in time, it was great. I was dating a guy in a band! haha

Some of the band looking sharp: Kelly, Troy and Britton

The best thing though, is that we all became good friends and so it was nice to see Troy and Lori and Kelly and Jimmy all together again for the reception. We had a lovely meal at Dicken’s Tavern and then got to watch a  live band upstairs in the Opera House. It was only fitting.

Congratulations Troy and Lori!
