Falling out of Summer

The weather has had a pretty big change here.  As I say that Puerto Rico just experienced Irene!  So I suppose change is all relative.

Once a year Cassie and I like to camp out in our backyard in a tent that was given to us as a wedding gift.  I spent quite a bit of time camping up in the mountains when I was growing up.  While it was fun, it’s one of those things that I have done quite a bit so it isn’t something that I feel I need to do.  Sleeping outside under the stars with Cassie is a lot of fun and we don’t have to drive, pack food, pack clothes and figure out all the details involved with a ‘camping trip’.

Our Tent

I used to also camp out in my backyard as a kid and across the street at my friend Matt’s house.  It was a lot of fun and I am sure parents enjoy it because your sleepover (loud kids) is outdoors!

We figured we had better get our once a year backyard camp out done because we have entered into the Fall season (maybe not officially, but you can feel it).  The weather is cooler, the veggies are ripe and the growing season is slowly coming to an end.  We’ve been getting more food from our garden lately too.

Fruit, Vegetables and Eggs

With the change in season we are starting to think about Puerto Rico too!  I hope there isn’t too much damage to the property, but if there is we can just fix and mend like we usually do!  We really enjoy our summer here in Colorado, but the winter is so long it will be nice to have a place to go where we can plant, pick garden and camp out!

I hope all our friends are doing well in PR after Irene.  The few Facebook posts we’ve seen indicate it wasn’t too bad and I hope that is the case.  I’d actually like to be down there for a tropical storm / hurricane at some point.  Just for the experience of it.  Not a major one of course!

Camping out sounds fun. Do you “extreme camp?” That’s when the tent has a/c, tv, fidge…I hope not! HA!

As for PR, our friends lost power in Puntas, just got it back this AM. The high winds missed them. Just some rain. So everything should be ok.

Of course… the kids still would like you guys to go camping with us. You know.. with a tent, the bears and the bugs 🙂

When the tent is just out our backyard we don’t need any of that. We just pile it with blankets, pillows and sometimes we bring the radio. It was raining a little bit and lightning too which was kind of cool being outside. Schnoodle slept in there with us and then Kitty wanted in too. The chickens woke us up in the morning. It was kind of cool being out there with all the animals. The only bad thing is that our yard has quite a slope so by the end of the night we had slid to the edge of the tent.

TNK- Maybe…I’m not a huge fan of “real” camping although it’d be a bit easier now that I have had Lasik. But maybe the kids could come over and camp out with us in the backyard? We might have a few weekends left of campable evenings.

We’ll try to swing by the property soon to check up on it for you – we have to see how all our crap is going so we can’t promise but maybe this weekend? Camping – I am never roughing it like Mona Island again… the yard sounds like a dream!

Hi Guys! Just got back from Rincon yesterday and no Irene was not too bad for our side of the island. Yes we did get lots of rain, my two banana trees fell over, so we have the bananas to Danny and his family. We lost electricity for two days, we went out to dinner at the Harbor Restaurant right at the public beach and the ocean looked so wild….angry as heck. But no down trees in our streets, so your little part of paradise is still there. Being in the island when you have a major storm is challenging, but it can be exciting too, the thunder had us jumping a few times… 🙂 We will be back in November for 10 days…see you around the hood!
