Feel the Noise- Puerto Rico Movie

Britton and I just watched the movie Feel the Noise. I think it is one of Jennifer Lopez’s films and I thought it was pretty good. They had a lot of music, especially reggaeton and hip hop. The parts I liked best were the scenes in Puerto Rico. There were a couple of scenes where they were playing basketball by the Fort -El Moro. We were like, I know exactly where that is…except when we were there a horse was on the court! Truly! See below…

Anyway, I’d recommend the movie. It’s not spectacular or anything, but it’s fun and gives you a feel for Puerto Rico and the connections to New York which they call Nuyorican.

I liked this song because of the coqui frog sounds incorporated into the beat.

    Hey Cris,

Thanks for the info. I hadn’t heard of most of those shows/movies except El Cantante and Mariah Carey’s video. We’ll have to watch them and put a review up on here 🙂 ! We also recently watched the movie “Empire” and it had a small scene of Puerto Rico in it, and Big Pun was one of the actors (very violent!). I also like to read books about Puerto Rico. The best one I have found recently is “Cuando Era Puertorriquena” or “When I was Puerto Rican” by Esmeralda Santiago. I think it gave the best “feel” for living there, especially the life of a child “jibara”. Have you read it?

As far as La Perla, we didn’t go down into the neighborhood, but we walked all around by the Fort and went to the cemetery and everything. It was really cool. It’s amazing how crammed they put those houses right on the ocean like that. Did you live in PR or do you now? If so, what part?

Talk to you soon…we are getting really excited to be down there for over two weeks – the first two weeks of February!

Yes I saw that empire movie too, yeh you are right about the voilence…
I have not read that book though, I heard of it, but now I will probably check it out 🙂

Oh & American Idol held auditions in PR this season, but not too many people showed up so who knows if it will even air..

My husband is from Puerto Rico, from Morovis (central-north area). I lived there for a summer only.. But I loved it so much, now I am trying to move over there for good. So I love to read your blog because you are doing the same thing 🙂

Have fun on your trip to PR!! I am sure you will 🙂
