Our Puerto Rico Trip 2009
I have been playing around with Slide, trying to make a slideshow of our trip to Puerto Rico. I’ve never used it before, so let’s see if this works.

“Stare into my fiery eyes as I rear up on my hind legs and stomp you”, IT said. That’s what I first thought of when I saw IT: The Blue Mustang of Death at Denver International Airport or DIA, now also known as Death Is Approaching. Or maybe IT was just saying “Welcome to Colorado”. We may never know.
When we came back from Puerto Rico, we noticed this big blue horse with red glowing eyes as we drove back home. A group of people have petitioned to have it taken down because some travelers are the anxious type, and like football fans, have their own superstitions. Especially when a neurotic and superstitious Denver Broncos fan also happens to be an anxious traveler. Is that a bronco or a…a… mustang?!!
It definitely is creepy, but cool in its own way. Without the glowing eyes, I don’t think it would have the kind of effect it has on people. Actually, it does kind of looks like the bronco at Mile High Stadium, only bigger and bluer, kinda like how Paul Bunyon liked his oxen.

It also makes you wonder, what IS the difference between a mustang and a bronco*? Well, I have provided you that very answer in photo form. You can also check out a Puerto Rican bronco.
But seriously -ok, not really seriously- but really, it seems like everyone has an opinion on this Blue Mustang near DIA. Apparently because the artist/sculptor was killed while making the beast, many believe it to be cursed. It also has another scary quality: anatomical correctness. Have you ever seen a male horse’s anatomy? How about 5 times larger? On its hind legs? You get the picture.
The glowing blue monster has also brought out the aliens according to our local UFO abductees/conspiracy theorists. According to them, the Blue Mustang is the base for an underground alien city beneath DIA where strange creatures like Freemasons congregate. *When I looked up the difference between a mustang horse and a bronco horse, there really isn’t much of a difference. They are both North American feral horses often of Arabian descent.
Saturday night we went out with Damon, Shana, and Clifton to the Island Grill in downtown Greeley for a blues band. Damon’s friends Jessie and Dee came down to hang out with us since they hadn’t seen Damon in a long time ever since he moved to Santa Barbara, CA. We also ran into JR (of course!).

The band was pretty good, but slow and loud, so we went to Pitchers on the other side of town by UNC. We drank one pitcher of beer at Pitchers and then decided to go to our house. We played cards but the only cards I could find were Easter Egg shaped. Both Britton and Clifton played for push ups which was pretty funny to watch. Then we played Catchphrase until about 2 or 3am.
Finally everyone was either too tired or had too much to drink so they all stayed the night. Every couch and the futon was taken. It was an interesting night. Some other highlights: We saw a bike crash that laid a guy out in the middle of the road. Another guy wore a bike helmet all night long in the bar (maybe he saw the wreck too and wanted to be safe ??). JR dropped Shana when he went to dip her. And I got a Landshark beer glass to take home. Who says Greeley doesn’t have much of a nightlife? There are things to do in Greeley at night, but you have to pay attention. It was pretty lively last night anyway.
We have been very busy lately with a variety of projects in addition to our jobs. It has been tough to readjust to work every day after staying up late because of the time change. Not only that, but Britton developed a cold and was coughing every night this week making it really hard to get enough sleep. Some of the extra projects in addition to work have included: teaching aerobics (as I have for about 8 years), working on finishing the basement at our rental, going to community meetings, and helping out my parents when my dad’s surgery was unexpectedly canceled.
Additionally, Britton’s friend Damon came into Colorado from Santa Barbara, California. Our friends Eric and Elaine just had a baby, so he wanted to come out to visit friends and celebrate the new arrival. We also have to go to Fort Collins tomorrow to look at a chicken coop we found off of Craigslist, go to the bank and I have to go to an event for work for a few hours. With this busy life, no wonder it has been so hard to keep up with the posts!
