Fun with Guests and Party at the Grocery Store!

We have been very busy these last few days. Having guests to show around is always a lot of fun because you get to show off the highlights of your town and area. In addition to showing them around our property and the waterfalls in San Sebastian we also went out to eat at some of our favorite locales: Tamboo for lunch overlooking Sandy beach, La Copa Llena for the most delicious food to celebrate Britton’s birthday, Villa Cofresi for a game of pool with “Piratas” or creamy rum drinks made inside a fresh coconut and The English Rose for breakfast in the “hills” overlooking the ocean.

We swam in the marina, went to a fun party, checked out the lighthouse and watched the surfers in Domes Beach and sat outside admiring the stars in the middle of January after cooking chicken on an open flame. Overall we had a great time and it reminds us that we definitely live in a vacation spot. But we have been so busy that we haven’t had much time for much else like boring life things such as laundry and groceries.

So we went to our favorite little grocery store in Rincon, Edward’s, to pick up a few groceries on Saturday and were greeted with a huge “Customer Appreciation Party”. Not only do the grocery stores in Puerto Rico sell alcohol unlike in Colorado, but they know how to throw a party! There was a pig roast, rice and beans, green bananas in garlic sauce, ceviche, bacalitos, sausages and all-you-can-drink rum, beer, and wine along with a live salsa band! Apparently the party just doesn’t stop in Rincon!

Kitty Bought His Ticket to Rincón!

I went in the bedroom today and I saw something odd.  Kitty had most of his belongings packed in a suitcase!

Kitty Pack
Kitty Packing His Stuff

I asked him why he was packing and he responded that he had called up United Airlines and booked a one way ticket to paradise.  He was going to be missing out on the upcoming winter and was pretty excited about it.  He also bought Cassie and I tickets.  Which means that we are going to be closing out our contest!

I guess he really does love us and his day trading has paid off!

Kitty Leave
Kitty All Packed up!

We are all set to fly out on….well, I will leave that a secret for a bit longer.   We have a few things to finish up and are going to have a party at our place on the 21st.  By then most if not all of our stuff will be out of the house and we will be headed to Puerto Rico soon after!

Gracias, Gatito!

Party Down!

The party was great last night. We had a fun time early on with the kids chasing chickens around the yard, we had lots of food and music, and a couple of games. Midway through the night, we gave out the raffle prizes: 2 bouquets of flowers from our yard in mason jars, a mojito pack that included cane sugar, club soda, fresh mint from our yard, a lime and shooter of bacardi, a salsa pack with some ingredients also from our garden: tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeno and garlic. Britton’s deviled eggs from our chickens’ eggs and cucumber California rolls with cucumbers from my mom’s garden were gone within 2 hours after making them.

We launched potatoes into the empty field behind our house while it was still light, and again later, had an interesting garlic eating contest, and in general had a great time. We drank cherry wine and dark chocolate and everyone enjoyed the cheese and olive tray downstairs. The food and drinks that everyone brought and made were excellent!! Thanks everyone for coming out and for all you brought to the party (in both senses of the word)!
Here are a few memorable moments:

After the kids chased the chickens till they were breathless, I picked up “Pepa” so they could touch her

Then I did the “trick” and put the chicken to sleep. All you have to do is gently stick the head under her wing and rock up and down. She woke up about 10 seconds later.

A lot of people wanted to see and hold Josh, the parrot

We used a whole bag of potatoes and a few other items throughout the night

Setting up the bet

Shortly after this video, one of the kiddos also ate a whole clove of garlic and ended up throwing up. But he was a champ!

The Morning After

If you came to the party, we would love for you to let us know how you liked it (click on add comments below this post). If you didn’t come, you missed out, and we missed you!
