Around the Finca, Moca, Festival de Chinas, Isabela and More

Aeden is too cool for photos

Whew. Lots to update. We have been doing a variety of projects around the farm including finding new plants and building a new staircase into the jungle. When we’re not working on the farm or cleaning or repairing the cabana or cabin, we go out into the world and try to find new adventures. We like to stay around the west side because we can make a day trip out of it and still get back by dark to keep to Aeden’s sleep schedule. Here are a few moments caught on camera recently.

Another beachy day in Rincon – Playa Lala is now a favorite here

Lots of hard work!

First time in a swing! He’s getting so big!

He has even gone swimming, underwater!

And had his first real bath -in the kitchen sink!

Cool leaves on a plant. I think this is a rattlesnake flower

Our monstera plant fruited!

Immature and mature monstera fruit! Tasted like pineapple and banana with a slight bite. You have to be careful not to eat them immature or it will burn your mouth.

Our prettiest ginger yet!

The Festival de la China was a bit of a bust! Super rainy!

I thought it was funny they were selling oranges in onion bags though!

And I was amazed at the variety of oranges (and bananas) one can grow

Aloha! A fun day in Isabela

We walked this LOOONG boardwalk in Isabela -windy, hot and dry but very beautiful. Would be a great bike ride

Fun with friends from Colo. It’s weird to “remember when.” It seems so long ago now

This just happened. I always call him my little monster and then I saw this onesie at the flea market and I was wearing basically the same thing and then we ate at an El Meson that had this colored wall. Serendipity-do-dah!

Latest update from the farm about baby Aeden (on the new stairs!)

Beachy Days

Enjoying Steps Beach

Most things on the island revolve around the beach at least to some extent. We don’t always go swimming or into the water, but we are often near it in one way or another. Here are a few fun random pictures near the sea.

More Fun with Family: Gozalandia and Beyond

Summer and Brandom’s stay was pretty short, so we tried to pack in all the stops we could. It’s hard when people come to visit because they are in vacation mode and we are not used to partying every night. Every other, maybe… (haha). But we had a lot of fun even if we are now completely exhausted!

We often go to Gozalandia with guests because it is just simply spectacular and close. This was probably our favorite trip because it was hot out and though there were more people, it was a Wednesday so it wasn’t too crowded. We each swung from the rope swing a few times and even jumped from the skull face.聽It was a聽great time.

Summer wanted to go to Villa Cofres铆 in Rinc贸n again to share with聽Brandon the famed pirata drink out of a coconut and watch the sunset before heading over to the Art Walk.

During the day I caught them a little iguana to hold. The darn thing kept snapping at me and trying to eat my diamond! But at least I haven’t lost my iguana catching skills!

On their final night here we went out with our friend Patrik in his nice Mercedes. Hanging out with Patrik is like being in real-life Grand Theft Auto. He is Swedish and very loud and intense, but a great guy. It was a lot of fun.

They even got to see the Rinc贸n Lighthouse, but of course! Overall, I think Brandon got a good dose of the Rinc贸n/west coast vibe.

Rinc贸n Chinchorreo

Something I find really fun about living in Rinc贸n is that while there are often “official” events and activities, a lot of the time they are just something that someone decides to do. Like the hula hooping/poi jam, or the hot sauce contest. Someone gets an idea and then they do it! Perhaps it’s because you must be something of a free thinker and a get-er-done type of person, but it is really a fun attribute of living here. The most recent one we participated in was the 3rd annual Rinc贸n Chinchorreo or Bar Crawl thanks to our friend Lowell. It was an opportunity to meet up with some friends聽and walk around Rinc贸n meeting more and more friends along the way.

At our first stop we even ran into the alcalde (mayor) of Rinc贸n whose name also happens to be Carlos, Carlos L贸pez Bonilla.

The photo’s a聽little tilted down, but hey!, we’re chinchorreando with the mayor!

Another stop along the route: El Patio Familiar

It was fun checking out bars that we had never visited before and whenever you go anywhere on foot or bicycle (or horse as the case of some of the crawlers) you are able to see things more slowly and in better detail. Down in Stella/Corcega at Pepe’s Pizza for instance, I was able to check out the erosion of the beach from Hurricane Matthew. Puerto Rico didn’t really experience any major direct damage but the waves that hit the southern part of the peninsula of聽Rinc贸n聽caused some serious erosion.

The crew continued to grow to our maximum at Villa Cofres铆 where they are doing some remodeling.

When we arrived to downtown Rinc贸n, I took a little side tour of the newest downtown boutique hotel: Qu茅 Ch茅vere. And Qu茅 Ch茅vere it is! I loved the retro feel and for聽travelers who want to experience the cool 聽Rinc贸n聽plaza atmosphere it is a great option. The owners went out of their way to show us their pride and joy.

That evening we continued the fun聽spending time with our friends Waldemar and Papo who have helped us build our cabin. Over these last nearly two years, we have developed quite the friendship with them and really enjoy each others’ company.

And had a lot of fun, even getting swept up in one of the many political caravanas

They say time flies when you’re having fun and I feel like we are on a Concord. I love this place.
