Life is spinning by as fast as ever. We are entering the summer season and tourism is slowing down and the plants and rains are taking off. Here are a few pictures that don’t warrant a post in themselves but are fun reminders of this time in our life.
It had been something of a rough week emotionally, so Britton and I thought some Vitamin Sea might be just what the doctor ordered. Which beach should we explore? There are so many beaches in Rincón, but we often go to the same ones all the time which normally are the north beaches near our house. So instead, we chose to go down south near Corcega and Almendros Beach.
I have seen the Millan Boat from afar before, but I have never gone and explored it. From what I understand it was built in the mid 20th century by Mr. Emiliano “Millan” Altiery as an homage to the fishermen profession.
Right nearby I noticed a cool swing! Being the adventurer that I am, I had to take a ride! Swinging on a coconut palm while the waves crashed next to a small river outlet reminds me how much my life seems like a dream and this is the carnival scene.
After swimming a bit more we began to get hungry. We packed up our beach chairs and headed down the road in the Millennium Falcon, our nickname for the warp-speeding Mustang. We picked up a pollo asa’o sandwich, chatted with a friend and then blasted off to find a little deserted beach in Añasco.
All in all, I’d say it helped us perk up a bit to remember what a beautiful place and time we get to live.
Here are a few photos that don’t probably deserve a post on their own but are just a part of the slice of life living in Puerto Rico. Sometimes the scenes and places we end up just seem so surreal, like we are living in a dream or some sort of cartoon. Sometimes it’s very strange, sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s just strikingly beautiful. But whatever it is, we’re living it up!
I forgot to mention that Kitty is adapting well to the move over to the cabin too
One of the conga players from the balneario came down and practiced with us in the jam space!
The last couple of Saturdays we have been heading down to the balneario (public swimming beach) in Rincón to jam with some local congueros. They have been meeting up for some time, but we didn’t realize it was a planned and open event! The first time we saw them we had stopped by the balneario one morning and were enjoying the beach scene of diving pelicans, funny little grackle birds, boats, swimmers and parasailers but slowly kept getting drawn closer and closer to the drummers and the trance-like beats. As I admired the beautiful congas and djembes, they encouraged us to grab some percussion instruments and join the group. Soon we were enveloped into the fold.
As we talked and got to know each other, they said we should come back each Saturday and join them as it is open to everyone. They were convinced I had to be a Latina and specifically from Colombia because of the way I speak Spanish. Britton, they could tell was still “aprendiendo” but he has improved a lot as well! Every day we fit in more and more here! Come down to the balneario some Saturday morning and join us!
