Colorado Spring in Full Bloom

Spring is in full bloom here in Colorado. The tulips, daffodils and hyacinths are proudly standing tall. The grass is turning green, the trees are flowering. Even the dreaded dandelions are showing their pretty colors. The 70 and 80 degree weather has been such a welcomed visitor. We all (the chicks, chicken, dog, cat and people) have been enjoying spending time in the backyard. We haven’t moved the chicks or the chicken out to the new chicken coop yet, but we have started to feed the chicken there and will have to move her there soon. Anyone know how to transition a chicken from one coop to another if the original will still be around?

Snakes on the Plains and other weird animals

Right as our party was starting the kids found this (bull?) snake in the yard. It is pretty small, and probably a baby, so I hope we don’t have a bunch of them around the house although Britton said he also saw a gardener snake. Of course, with them empty field behind us, there are a ton of mice for them to eat. And, thanks, Kitty for bringing the dead little mice and bird bodies onto the porch when you catch them. We really appreciate it (gag!). We also have a bunch of bugs, and I found this little green dude on our kitchen table. I think it is the same type I saw munching on my basil! Blends in so perfectly, I barely even noticed it on the table because I thought it was just a random piece of leaf.

Callie is missing

Callie has been missing for about a week. She sometimes disappears but not for longer than about 2-3 days. I know I shouldn’t worry, and she is a stray (I guess that’s why they are called that, they stray), but still, where could she be? Maybe someone else took her in their house, as a neighbor did in the past, or she is just out galavanting around. I hope so…I called the Humane Society and they told me they can’t do identifications by phone and we’d have to come in and check. The thing is that they would charge like $50 just for her get out of jail free card, (that is IF she is even there) and since she is a stray it could happen again. But…I don’t want them to euthanize her…Come back Callie, we miss you!

Callie, where are you?
