Puerto Rico…A Little Closer

Today we got a little closer to Puerto Rico. (At least figuratively, but perhaps actually since the earth moved a little off its axis after that huge earthquake in Japan.)

We applied for and were approved for two personal loans that will help to cover the difference in buying the place in Rincon. We have also bought our tickets to Aguadilla and back leaving the last week in May and returning early June (2 weeks). And thanks to the kind Kruses, I think we have a place to stay when we first arrive. I am so excited today that I just want to do it now! But I know we must wait, and so I have been keeping myself calm by reading all about the tropical plants we can grow there!

A cool Puerto Rican plant

I picked up one from the library called Growing Tasty Tropical Plants. I am ready to grow, cook with, and eat kumquats, guava, cinnamon, yerba mate, passion fruit, dragon fruit, and miracle berries among many other strange and delectable things. Hurray for gardening in the tropics! And hurray for all these steps that are helping our dream bear fruit as well.

Yup – you can grow all those things! We’ve got a cinnamon tree, the citron has small fruit on it, passion fruit (I can give you starts), dragon fruit (I can give you starts), miracle fruit, chocolate and loads more things probably not even in that book! Looks like a super cool book… We’ve got a room for you and know how hard it is just waiting…and waiting…

Loved that blue “bird of paradise” picture. In SB they are orange! So happy to see you two in your “Puerto Rico” Dreamin’! Adventures like this make life worth living in my opinion.

Britton this site works like a charm. It’s so fast to access and zippy within.

Annie, I thought that was maybe a bird of paradise, but I wasn’t sure. It was with all the photos Britton took on the last trip there, so I’m not even sure which way is up. You and Larry will have to come out and visit us in PR! We can’t wait!

    Katrina,
That’s awesome. You guys have so many neat plants at your place. Hopefully you’ll be able to bring cuttings and clippings from all your plants to start at your new place once you move. Thanks so much for offering the the starts and for letting us stay with you.

We talked with the real estate agent and he said we’ll plan for a closing Monday May 23, or Tuesday if that doesn’t happen for some reason. So we should be out of your hair pretty quick! 🙂 But you should think of an easy cave we could go with you guys to (we don’t really have any equipment for major exploration yet)! That would be fun.

Cassie – if you are still looking for an air mattress, I see that on rincon clasificados “Admin” has a queen size air mattress for sale for $20.
