We’ve had a little bit of snow pretty late into the season this year. This morning we awoke to quite a white scene outside. I was a bit worried for the pepper plants that we had already planted in the garden, but I knew everything in the greenhouse would be ok. Luckily, in true Colorado fashion, the weather changed in short order and everything looks to have survived the snow.

Last night we went to Rafferty’s bar in Greeley to watch our friend Shana belly dance. Rafferty’s is kind of known for being a run-down bar, but they have fixed it up quite a bit. We hung out with our friends Kelly, Lorena and a few more people before it started. It was neat seeing all the costumes, dancing and hear the music. I think it would be fun to do belly dancing. We stayed a little bit longer to watch a rock band called Kung Fu Grip because I also knew the drummer. Anyway, it was fun, except one thing.

The only thing that really bothered me (and that I’ll probably have to look into doing something about) was all the smoke. They built this “patio” on to it, but it is basically another room -it had walls, windows which were shut and doors. So whenever anyone went into the “smoking patio” all the smoke went right back in to us. While I should notice this sort of thing, Britton, who rarely complains, even noticed it. That was part of the reason we left so early -he was getting a headache from the smoke. It’s amazing how quickly you get used to not having to go out in smoke! It reminded me a little of the early days when Britton played in a band in all those gross smoky bars and how I’d have to take a shower just to get the smoke out of my hair before bed.
So we went home and hung out for a while. Then Shana who was so excited about her performance wanted to come by and gush and take pictures. It was kind of fun. I was showing her the way to take the best pictures and the angles that are the most flattering. Here are a few I took:

The weather has been really WET here lately. And that’s unusual. We even got a little snow but it didn’t stick. I was surprised to see the chickens out cavorting in the rain instead of huddled in their coop like I wanted to be (in my bed, that is). But I did snap a few funny pictures of the wet menagerie. I was worried about the chickens being all wet, but from everything I’ve read, they are fine as long as they can get out of it if they want to.

Our dog Schnoodle is so old she doesn’t know what’s up. She can barely see, has very few teeth, can’t hear unless we clap and is slowing down a bit. But she does love to eat and her nose knows. However, she doesn’t rightly know what’s going on right on her back. So we played a little game of feed the chickens from the back of Schnoodle. It was pretty funny. Have a look. As for Kitty, he’s too sophisticated to join in on the fun.
We have another cat in the neighborhood. Our Greeley backyard is kind of like Puerto Rico -like the Kruses - with all the stray cats that come around. This one has come by more than a few times so he gets a name. In true unoriginal fashion we called him as we saw him (or is it her??): Patch. But that sounded too common so I used the Igpay Atinlay form of the name: Atchpay. We think it’s a “he” because we have had the occasional unfortunate fragrance that only comes from male cats. And Kitty does not seem to want to share his territory.

I have pet him and briefly picked him up but not held him. He is really cute with little white sock feet. We could have called him “Socks” -or rather, Ocksay.
