Fiesta de la Cosecha ¡Fiesta Loca!

You are invited to a

Harvest LOCAvore Party

at Our House

on Saturday, September 6, 2008, 6pm-??

If you had a garden this year, bring some of your LOCAl bounty to share with others either in the raw or prepared as a side. If not, bring a favorite dish or drink (maybe from ingredients from the LOCAl farmers’ market). This is not required, but a fun way to share and try new things. We will have plenty of drinks and lots of food. Maybe deviled eggs from our chickens? Britton’s famous sushi rolls made with local cucumbers? Our scrumptious chile rellenos from fresh chiles? You’ll have to wait and see.

For Entertainment, we will hold a tasting of the various beers and wines that people bring, listen to music, eat, play cards, launch potatoes, maybe play rockband, chase chickens (?), have a garlic or habanero pepper eating challenge, toss around a frisbee, play hack and other fun, strange and interesting things. Our neighbors have a hot tub too, so if you are a good persuader…who knows?

Playing Rockband! 🙂

Feel free to bring the kids if you’d like. We’ll try to have kid-friendly things going on too.

For more info including directions, email or call us:

Fun in the Sunset

Our backyard produces some awesome sunsets. We are not sure how long we will have an open field behind us, but if they ever change it, we will probably be long gone in Puerto Rico by then.

For those of you coming to our party next weekend (Sept 6th), you can enjoy it with us as we launch potatoes into the field and lake (more info in a post this weekend hopefully)….

DeathTransPlanet?? *updated*

A friend of mine recently wrecked his Hayabusa 1300R sportbike and the insurance got him a new one. I told some folks I’d post this up so here are the pics. It really is a nice bike and I think it still is the “fastest sport bike in the world”. 200+mph

For your first motorcyle I personally think its a bit much (I wouldn’t do it) but its what truly makes this guy happy. I’ve lost a FEW friends to these sportbikes and this one is BY FAR THE FASTEST.

I will also note that when we were in Puerto Rico there were quite a few of these.

I am the worst photographer ever because I didn’t get one of the whole bike…eek! I did get a video of the startup. I also got pics of ALL THE MODZ. But not the whole bike.

Also this bike is modded. It has the speed limiter removed so it can go over 200mph and it also has been dyno’ed and I think he said 160hp at the rear wheel. Which is insane.

My friend Randy died a short time ago on I think a 900cc. I also lost a friend on an R1 (1000cc). So I am a bit touchy.

The new computer program records your last highest speed.

I guess I am being a bit harsh. It’s just that I am just using this as an opportunity to speak my peace. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL.

People out there do care about your well being.

Even the chain looks cool.

You can see the exhaust header thru this hole. And below the windscreen is even upgraded.

Rage, Flobots and the DNC in Denver

By Cassie

The DNC is in Denver this week which is pretty historic considering who will be accepting the nomination for president. But also impressive is that Rage Against the Machine and the Flobots are playing here today, I believe. One of my friends, Lorena, won tickets to the show, and another, Rhonda, is going to Invesco when Obama makes his acceptance speech. It’s pretty crazy to see so much attention on Colorado right now.

The Flobots and Rage are not promoting or protesting the Democratic party or anything, actually the way I understand it, they are trying to bring awareness about the government and political process in general, the influence of corporate media on Americans (and govt), and the influence of Americans -and our politics- on the world (for better and for worse).  Here’s a quote from one of the band members:

“Our message here is really trying to gather and rally all of this investment that people are getting now in the whole political process. We have both young people and old really re-energized for the first time and really involved in this process,” Brackett said. “And we want to make sure that energy doesn’t get lost when the president is finally elected.”

Rage is a little heavy of a band for me, but they are super smart and right on target with their lyrics. I love the Flobots hip-hop beat, violins and lyrics, and I believe they are from Colorado. If you’ve never heard Rage or Flobots, here are some Rage lyrics, and a Flobot video:

No Shelter
The main attraction distraction
Got you number than number than numb.
Empty your pockets son they got you thinkin’ that
What you need is what they sellin’
Make you think that buyin’ is rebellin’

From the theaters to malls on every shore
The thin line between entertainment and war
The front line is everywhere there’ll be no shelter here
Still burn the nightmare works you pushin’ for,
I’m a snap of the whip, the true feather to tar
Memory erased and promise gone,
Tradin’ your history for a V.C.R.

Cinema simulated life in trauma
Forthright culture, Americana
Chained to the dream they got you searchin’ for
The thin line between entertainment and war
There’ll be no shelter here,
The front line is everywhere. X4
Hospitals not profitful
The market bulls got pockets full
To advertise some hip disguise
View the world from American eyes
The parmagon keep fiendin’ for more
The thin line between entertainment and war
Fix the need, develop the taste,
Buy the products, or get laid to waste
Coca-cola was back in the veins of Saigon
And Rambo troops We got a dope pair ‘a Nikes on
Godzilla pure motherfuckin’ filler
Get your eyes on the real killer,
Cinema simulated life in trauma
Forthright culture, Americana
Chained to the dream they got you searchin’ for,
The thin line between entertainment and war.
There’ll be no shelter here,
The front line is everywhere. X4
American eyes, American eyes,
View the world from American eyes,

Bury the past, rob us blind,
leave nothing behind. X2
Just stare. X4
Or live the nightmare.

American Eyes, of course, when said aloud is: Americanize.

Here is “Handlebars” which is probably the Flobot’s most famous but they also have other good songs like “There is a War Going On for Your Mind” “Rise” “The Moon” and others.
