Daisy Style for the Ween Concert

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

On the poll, “Daisy Style” won by a landslide. In case you were wondering what some of the “others” were, we had two blanks, and two write-ins: Yourself, and Red to wear my sexy red shoes. I was actually hoping that Daisy would win because we have so many daisies in our backyard right now that I wanted to do something with them.

When I saw that Daisy was probably going to win, I thought about how I could use them. I thought of a daisy chain necklace or possibly pinning them into my hair. Then I decided I was going to wear a flower garland in my hair. Then, I looked in my hair supply drawer and found a headband that would work perfectly.

In case you ever want to try this out, it was extremely easy. I did it on my lunch break yesterday.
1) Gather the daisies, leave about 2 inches of stem. Depending on the look, pick flower sizes accordingly.
2) Lay the daisies out in the order you want them placed.
3) Insert into the headband starting with the middle and working outword.

4) Add water and refrigerate until use.

5) Add a flowery dress, some accessories and Voila! Daisy girl!

Also added some daisy earrings

The concert was pretty fun. I didn’t know very many songs compared to Britton and it was super hot in there. It was basically an old hangar that was converted into a theatre and it felt like there was no air conditioning at all. We were sweating, and my poor daisies only lasted about an hour in there before wilting. When we first got there some girl came up and hugged me when she saw the daisies. (Yes, There were a lot of hippies!) We went out to Buca Di Beppo for dinner and that was pretty fun too. Overall, a great kickoff for my birthday. Thanks everyone for voting!! :-)

Oh and Daisy won.  We shall post pics tomorrow.

I wasn’t supposed to work today but I did.  I am attempting to gain some ground doing QA and taking on System Admin functions.  My ideal plan here is to show the company that I am valueable and useful.  That way when the day comes that I move to PR, I’d love to take my job with me and if not I’ve learned ALOT.

This is going to happen, I just have to try hard…which is what I am doing.  I think I put as much effort into my daily work as a construction worker does when he builds a road.  Mine is just mental, but man….I am tired at the end of the day.   I could just sit around and do nothing and still get paid, but I dont think that is fair to myself or the company.

So Ween is tonight which kicks off Cassie’s birthday weekend.  I have off till Friday.  One of the good things about having her birthday in the summer is it gives us an excuse to relax and enjoy the summer.

I’ve included a ween song on this post instead of any images.  Hope you enjoy.  Courtesy of ween.net.

Puerto Rico Update! – looong post by BK

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

We called Alwilda who is the current owner of the property in Puerto Rico. She said that her lawyer received some papers back from the government / title company (I am not entirely sure how it all works down there yet). Apparently this is the last paper that needs to be signed for the property to be registered/titled correctly. I sure hope so.

When we asked Cassie’s uncle about purchasing property in Puerto Rico he wasn’t entirely sure because he was licensed in particular states, his advice was to make sure you go thru the larger well known companies. I would have to say that after our first attempt at the purchase this was true. The bank has lawyers and they checked out all the property access requirements and survey/appraisal which is wonderful. They are the ones who found out that the title wasn’t setup properly.

We are getting closer to re-applying for the loan. Hopefully this time it will go thru; we asked for more time intitally (in January) and boy did we get it!

I was thinking about this summer / fall because I think that is when Hurricane season starts. I actually am kind of excited to experience one. People here are somewhat proud that we don’t have such disasters. But less than 10 miles away we had a pretty large tornado roll thru here, so even we aren’t ‘safe’.

Greeley/Windsor Tornado

There is also one other thing that I find really interesting and dangerous about PR.  The trench to the north of the island.  Well that AND the fault line.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Rico_Trench

PR Trench

“The island of Puerto Rico lies immediately to the south of the fault zone and the trench. The trench is 800 kilometers (500 mi) long and has a maximum a depth of 8,605 meters (28,232 ft) at Milwaukee Deep, which is the deepest point in the Atlantic Ocean.”

Which is also why I am ok with not being on the beach front.  If an earthquake hits apparently from what I’ve read the trench can have underwater avalanches that cause tsunamis.  Although here in the mainland we have the ‘economy’ which could be way worse than any tsunami.  Look at our trench!

US Trench

I dont know which is deeper?  I guess I will take the one that only crashes once every hundred years (PR Trench) not every 30 (stock market).

30 Mile Bike Ride!

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Yesterday Britton and I went for a casual Sunday bike ride with our friends, Matt, Jamie, Chad and Erin. Well, Matt’s definition of a fun, leisurely ride, is definitely not mine! We ended up in Windsor, 15 miles away. It was hot and very sunny. The last few miles back I could hardly pedal. It was a beautiful ride on the Poudre Trail, but I was so ready for a beer when I got home (about 3 hours later), you can only imagine. This morning I woke up with a killer sunburn. Britton calls me Rock Lobster.

Ouch!
At least I had a hat on and my face didn’t get burned!

Dinner with Jody

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

We went out on Friday night with my good friend and former co-worker, Jody and her family. I haven’t seen her since probably December and so when I saw her again I was so happily surprised. I knew she was pregnant, but it’s always so shocking to see someone change that dramatically after six or seven months. It was great to see her again.

What a cute belly!

They used to call us the “Tobacco Twins” at work

This picture is too funny not to put in. Brian, Logan and Rico Suave

Here’s a gorgeous sunset to top it off

Oh, and thanks to all who have voted so far. If you haven’t yet, see the following post and VOTE! Looks like “Daisy” is winning so far.
